Only four events on the ATP Challenger Tour last week, with Czech players taking out two titles. Jan Kumstat, the junior Australian Open runner-up to Rei Sakamoto back in 2024, won his maiden Challenger title a couple of weeks ago. He has now won his second in Hamburg, which further slashes his ranking into the top 250 after starting the season at #675. It seems Kumstat is finding his groove amongst the professional ranks, and I think we’ll see him inside the top 100 before too long.
If that isn’t enough to get Czech tennis fans excited, Maxim Mrva, a 19-year-old, just announced himself on the tour, taking out his maiden Challenger title in Todi. He moves to a career high of #218.
South African, Lloyd Harris continues his climb back up the rankings. A former US Open quarter-finalist with a high of #31, Harris has now won three Challenger titles this year, and has moved from #222 at the start of the season, up to #145 after taking out the Brownsburg tournament.
Hayato Matsuoka is another first-time winner on the Challenger Tour, taking out the Astana event, which will move the 21-year-old Japanese player up to #248, another career high.
