Announcing the move on social media Wednesday, the 2023 US Open singles champion, and 2024 French Open doubles titleholder emphasized her desire to take greater control over her career, including business and philanthropic ventures.

“This is just the beginning of an exciting new era for me, and there is much more to come, which I’ll be excited to share in due time,” Gauff posted. She reassured fans that despite this business shift, “As always, tennis will continue to be my main priority!”

Gauff has seen tremendous financial success so far, earning approximately $23 million in prize money throughout her career, with endorsements pushing her total earnings in 2024 to $30.4 million—making her the highest-earning female athlete of the year, according to Sportico.

In making this strategic decision, Gauff is beginning a new partnership with WME, an agency known for working with top athletes, including Serena Williams. This transition marks the end of her association with Team8, which has been part of her professional journey until now.

The 21-year-old American first gained global attention at just 15 years old at the 2019 Wimbledon event, when she became the youngest player to qualify for the main draw. She then famously defeated Venus Williams in the 1st Rd. before going on to reach the 4th Rd. Since then, she has risen to a career-high ranking of No. 2 in singles and No. 1 in doubles, currently sitting at No. 3 and No. 25, respectively.

Gauff’s influence extends beyond the court, as she has frequently used her platform to advocate for social causes, including raising awareness about gun violence and racism. In her announcement, she highlighted that her ambitions go beyond sports, stating…

“From the moment I first picked up a tennis racket, I’ve always believed my purpose extended far beyond the court.” She expressed her commitment to making an impact not only in tennis but also in business, philanthropy, and other areas.

As she takes this step toward shaping her own legacy, Gauff is clearly positioning herself as more than just an elite tennis player—she is working to carve out a broader influence in the world of sports and beyond.
