Advantage simply means a player is one point away from winning a game after deuce.
You will hear:
- “Advantage server”
- “Advantage receiver”
This tells you who won the most recent point after deuce.
What happens next?
After advantage:
- If that player wins the next point → they win the game
- If they lose it → the score returns to deuce
There is no middle ground. It is either game-winning or reset.
Why is advantage so important?
Advantage points are among the most high-pressure moments in tennis because:
- there is always something on the line
- mistakes are more costly
- momentum can shift very quickly
At elite level, players often say:
“It’s all about the big points”
Advantage situations are exactly what they mean.
